Estonian, Russian, Vietnamese Language Courses and Translations at A&E Keeltekool, Tallinn

A&E Keeltekool Language School offers Estonian language courses specifically developed for English speakers.

The courses are intended for those who would like to improve their conversational skills as well as those who are planning to take one of the Estonian language proficiency exams (A2, B1, B2 or C1) in the near future.

During the courses you will learn vocabulary and grammar essential for everyday life in Estonia as well as in business and studies. Teachers also take into account the format of the language proficiency examinations and help you develop the skills necessary to pass them successfully.

Our school also offers the following courses:

·         Business Estonian;

·         Conversational Estonian;

·         Classes in small groups or individual training.

Our teachers are professionals with long experience of work in state educational institutions and private schools.

Each course consists of 80 ac. hours, with the classes running twice a week (2 ac/hours per class).

Group size: 5 – 8 people.

Course descriptions:

A2 – Estonian for Beginners

The focus in the Beginners’ course is on gaining basic conversational skills; in particular, how to ask for or provide necessary information.

Among the conversational topics of the course are Introductions; My Family and I; Seasons, Months, Days of the Week; In Town; Shopping; In a Café; Food and Drinks; Numbers; Countries and Languages, etc.

Grammar will be taught in accordance with the level and the abovementioned topics.

At the end of the course you will be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of the most immediate relevance (e.g., very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment), communicate during simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters, describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

At the end of the course each student will take an internal A&E Keeltekool test. Upon passing it successfully the student will receive a certificate  stating that the student has taken and passed an A2 Estonian language course. After completion of the A2 course, you can continue your Estonian language studies in the B1 language course.

B1 – Estonian for Pre-Intermediate level students (Independent User).

This course also focuses on the development of conversational ability. With this in mind, the teachers also pay attention to reading and writing skills. The length of the course depends on the basic level of a specific group but usually varies from 40 to 80 ac. hours.

The course covers the following topics: Special Features of the Estonian Language; Polite Phrases; People; Numbers; Time; Transport and Travel; Hobbies etc.

The grammar studied is more difficult than in the A2 level course, but it still depends on the needs of the specific situations and topics covered.

Upon the successful completion of the course you will be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc., deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in Estonia, produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest, describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

At the end of the course each student will take an internal A&E Keeltekool test. Upon passing it successfully the student will receive a certificate  stating that the student has taken and passed a B1 Estonian language course. After the completion of the B1 course you can continue your Estonian language studies in the B2 language course.

B2 – Estonian for Intermediate level students (Independent User)

The main focus of the course is on building up students’ vocabulary and developing their conversational skills. Reading and writing skills are developed as well.

The course covers the following topics: Conditions, Wishes and Future Plans; Description of Places, People and Their Actions; Interests, Hobbies and Everyday Activities; Conversation about the Past; Responsibilities, Preferences, Abilities and Talents.

The grammar studied is more difficult than in the B1 level course, but it still depends on the needs of the specific situations and topics covered.

Upon the successful completion of the B2 course, you will be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in your field of specialization, interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain on either party, produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

At the end of the course each student will take an internal A&E Keeltekool test. Upon passing it successfully, the student will receive a certificate stating that the student has taken and passed a B2 Estonian language course. After completion of the B2 course, you can continue your Estonian language studies in the C1 language course.
